Abstract
So far, historiography devoted to the study of ceramics in Puerto Rico has barely paid attention to the early stage of Jaime Suá rez. It is therefore a period little known but crucial to understanding his later career. In it, he leaves aside his training as an architect to embark on creating artifacts more related to the Puerto Rican handicraft production works. He reinterpreted some popular images of the island and brought a new vision of the techniques used by the taínos, although using a contemporary vocabulary. In these early years emerged two of his fundamental topics, the landscape and seascape.
