Abstract
Different languages reflect different conceptualization perspectives in their lexicon (Wierzbicka 1997). Whereas there is a large number of studies on general language, specialized language has received little attention. However technology is extremely important in the modern world, and technical language is a vehicle for knowledge transfer between scientific communities in different countries. However, culture-specific factors influence the formation of specialized concepts. Such factors also make it difficult for scientific and technical translators (who must rapidly acquire the specialized knowledge represented by the terms in a text) to carry out terminology management work (whether it be ad hoc or systematic). The knowledge-based terminological management approach (Faber 1999) focuses on the extraction and organization of the knowledge underlying specialized terms in texts to identify and explain the differences in the way terms are used in different languages. This research on Russian-Spanish terminology shows that the representation of the conceptual system underlying the terms of each language helps to guarantee multilingual correspondence between terms and facilitates high-quality scientific and technical translation.
