Abstract
Photography is considered as an essential registry tool for field work and social research. Taking pictures has become so common that we sometimes lose perspective from the processes and different relations we can build from this very action. Verticality, privacy intrusion, lack of dialogue, turning mere objects into living subjects are some of the practices that are part of what it is called "photographic record". Currently, there is a broad development of photography as a participatory method to work a joint visuality with different populations in various thematic areas/ fields. However, these alternative processes have to face challenges as well. Contradictions between image and speech, conflicts in group working are some of the issues we must face in order to build a more effective and feasible practice and not just an ideal one.
