The Role of English and Internationalization in the South… of the North

Abstract

This paper addresses the role of English and internationalization in the geopolitical South (of Spain) of the North (Europe) and stemmed from a geographical-geopolitical North (Spain) - South (Brazil) partnership. The first author of this paper works at a university in the South of Spain (Universidad Pablo de Olavide - UPO) and the second author of this paper works in a Federal University in the Southeast region of Brazil (Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo - UFES) in what we can call the geopolitical North of the South in Brazilian geopolitical terms and in the South in global terms. Internal pressure at UFES and UPO to seek North-South partnerships has motivated the authors to look for partnerships outside their geopolitical region and this is how an agreement between UFES and UPO in Spain began.
