Abstract
This chapter addresses the functionalist analysis of translation problems encountered in the certified translation of academic documents from the United States. More specifically, it looks at the English to Spanish translation of transcripts of records. After several phases of analysis, a series of definitive categories were established for translation problems. Most of these categories were created inductively, only some of them were obtained deductively, but the subsequent analysis was entirely inductive. The result was a fairly exhaustive categorisation of the corpus, mainly thanks to the stereotypical nature of the text types analysed.
