Sevilla resiste el embate de la peste negra y todavía durante años siguió siendo un enclave comercial muy importante. Alrededor de su puerto y de la actividad mercantil generada se reunieron innumerables individuos en el interés de prosperar al amparo del tráfico con las Indias. La ciudad todavía muestra la huella de este colectivo, en sus calles, plazas e incluso edificios. Ciudad, arquitectura y arte se vieron de un modo u otro afectados por la vida junto al Arenal.
