Abstract
Our Lady of Antigua, venerated in the Cathedral of Seville after the Reconquest of the city from the Almohad domain in 1248, was the great Marian dedication of the Archdiocese of Seville throughout the Modern Age. After the Discovery and elected Seville as head of the American trade, it was the custom of the sailors heading to the Indies, to entrust themselves to this holy image before embarking, entrusting the good end of the trip to its protection. For this reason, some ¿Indianos¿ sent her important sums of money or rich goldsmith objects for the decoration and furniture of his chapel.
