O ouro do retábulo-mor da Sé do Porto

Abstract

Com a construção do retábulo-mor da Sé do Porto (1727-1729), introduz-se no Porto o gosto pelo barroco romano, que visava dar uma feição mais moderna ao edifício medieval de acordo com as novas tendências estéticas. Este retábulo, considerado uma das máquinas retabulares mais imponentes do país, de grande criatividade e vigor decorativo, inspira-se na obra de Andrea Pozzo, Perspectiva Pictorum et Architectorum, possuindo ainda diversos paralelismos com a talha lisboeta. Pretendeu-se com este estudo identificar características distintivas da folha de ouro utilizada neste retábulo, através de uma abordagem multianalítica. Os resultados obtidos permitiram reconhecer um perfil para o ouro utilizado, tornando-se uma mais-valia para novas aproximações históricas, estilísticas e tecnológicas, fornecendo novos dados para o estudo destas produções.

The construction of the main altarpiece of Porto¿s Cathedral (1727-1729) was the advent in the city of Porto of the taste for the roman baroque, which aimed to give a more modern feature to the medieval buildings, according to the new aesthetics trends. This altarpiece, considered one of the most impressive works in Portugal, with great creativity and decorative vigour, is inspired by Andrea Pozzo Perspectiva Pictorum et Architectorum and exhibits several parallelisms with the gilded altarpieces from Lisbon. This study aims to identify the distinguishing features of the gold leaf applied in this altarpiece through a multianalytical approach. The results allowed us to identify a specific profile for the gold, posing as an asset for new historical, stylistic and technological systems, offering new data on the study of this artwork.
