Este artículo analiza una interesante paradoja. A pesar de los numerosos mártires jesuitas que murieron en las islas Marianas, su culto no se ha popularizado entre los chamorros de Guåhån (o Guam) porque no existe demanda de lo santo. Sus héroes son otros: en particular, la figura del maga¿låhi Hurao, líder de la resistencia chamorra en 1672, convertido en un icono del nacionalismo chamorro del siglo XXI.
This article tackles an interesting paradox. Despite the many Jesuit martyrs who died in the Marianas, their cult is not popular among the chamorros in Guåhån (or Guam) because currently there is no demand for the holy. Their heroes are other ones: in particular, the maga¿låhi Hurao, leader of the Chamorro resistance in 1672, who has become an icon of 21st century Chamorro nationalism.
