Pensions systems in the European Union after Brexit: its impact on public pensions

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza el impacto del Brexit en la cobertura de pensiones, en la coordinación entre los diferentes estados miembros de sus sistemas de seguridad social, y en el principio de libertad de circulación de trabajadores. El Brexit va a afectar a los anteriores elementos, sobre todo si se tienen en cuenta las diferencias del modelo de pensiones existente en el Reino Unido con el sistema español. El artículo termina ofreciendo diferentes opciones regulatorias para abordar esta cuestión, como el establecimiento de un marco jurídico para la exportación de pensiones o la negociación de un convenio a medida entre el Reino Unido y España.This article analyzes the impact of Brexit on retirement benefits, on the coordination between the different member states of its social security systems, and on the principle of free movement of workers. The Brexit will affect the previous elements, especially if the differences of the existing pension model in the United Kingdom with the Spanish system are taken into account. The article ends by offering different regulatory options to address this issue, such as the establishment of a legal framework for the export of pensions or the negotiation of a custom-made agreement between the United Kingdom and Spain.
