Arquitectura y ornamento efímero. Consideraciones sobre el valor y la función de los espacios festivos sacros durante el Barroco en Andalucía

Abstract

Analizamos en este trabajo las relaciones que se establecen entre la arquitectura permanente y los adornos perecederos en los espacios sacros con motivo de las festividades religiosas en honor a nuevos beatos y santos durante el Barroco andaluz. Para ello emplearemos como fuente el material proporcionado por las descripciones festivas impresas para estas ocasiones durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII y la primera mitad del XVIII. El objetivo de este trabajo será estudiar el modo en que se respeta la arquitectura estable del templo, la retórica de la variedad y el ingenio y la correspondencia entre el lenguaje verbal y el visual. Para ello observamos metáforas, comparaciones, juicios estéticos y reiteraciones en nombres y calificativos empleados, que permiten profundizar en el significado cultural del adorno efímero en la sociedad andaluza de la época.

This paper analyzes the relationship established between the permanent architecture and the ephemeral ornaments in sacred spaces on the occasion of the religious festivities in honor of new saints and beati during the Andalusian Baroque. For this purpose, the source will be the descriptions of the festivities printed for these occasions during the second half of the seventeenth century and the first half of the eighteenth century. The aim of this work is to study the way in which the stable architecture of the temple is res- pected, the rhetoric of variety and wit, and the correspondence between verbal and visual language. To do so, metaphors, comparisons, aesthetic judgments and reiterations in names and adjectives used, will be analyzed, which allow us to delve into the cultural meaning of the ephemeral ornament in the Andalusian society of the time.
