Variación lingüística en judeoespañol: el caso de muncho

Abstract

Este artículo sobre la variación lingüística en judeoespañol está especialmente centrado en el caso de muncho, la forma general entre los sefardíes, en lugar del estándar mucho. A finales del siglo xv había ciertas vacilaciones en español, tales como muncho frente a mucho. Este tipo de vacilaciones se resolvió mediante la elección de una forma y el rechazo de la otra. Sin embargo, aunque mucho fue la forma elegida en el español estándar, el judeoespañol prefirió la forma muncho. En este artículo trataré de demostrar que esta variación se debe a la configuración de una nueva norma lingüística en judeoespañol, diferente de la del español estándar, y por ese motivo muncho no puede ser considerado como un arcaísmo o un vulgarismo, sino como un dialectalismo propio del judeoespañol.

This article about the linguistic variation in Judeo-Spanish is especially focused on the case of muncho, the general form among Sephardic people, instead of the standard mucho. At the end of the 15th century, there were severa! vacillations in Spanish, such as muncho versus mucho. This kind of vacillations was solved by choosing one form and forgetting the other. However, although mucho was chosen in standard Spanish, muncho was preferred in Judeo-Spanish. In this article I will try to prove that this variation is due to the creation of a new linguistic norm in Judeo-Spanish, different from standard Spanish, and so that muncho may not be considered as an archaism or a vulgarism, but as a dialectal feature in Judeo-Spanish.
