Abstract
A lo largo de la Edad Moderna, no son muchos los ejemplos de mujeres referenciadas por la historiografía. Sin embargo, en Granada encontramos un considerable número de pintoras con una amplia actividad documentada que sí tuvieron, en la medida de sus posibilidades, la oportunidad de desafiar las condiciones sociales de la época. Las hay vinculadas a talleres familiares, otras tantas pertenecientes a las más altas esferas de la sociedad, también las que optaron por la vida contemplativa; y por último, aquellas que a finales del siglo XVIII adquirieron un reconocimiento oficial de su obra por parte de las principales instituciones ilustradas de la ciudad.
Throughout the Modern Age there are not many examples of women in the historiography. In Granada, however, we find a considerable number of women 140 painters with a wide range of documented activity who did have the opportunity to challenge the social conditions of the time, as far as they were able. There are those linked to family workshops, others who belonged to the highest echelons of society, others who opted for a contemplative life, and lastly, those whose work was officially recognised by the city’s main enlightened institutions at the end of the 18th century.
