Abstract
This study aims at approaching the patronage in the Sacro Monte Abbey of collegiate of San Dionisio Apeopagita, José Jiménez de Campos Redondo, through unpublished documents. After completing his studies in Granada, he was nominated, thanks to the king Philip V, canon of the Real Colegiata de Santa María in Antequera, where he died in 1758. During this period, he donated a little sculpture of the Virgin of Rosario to the Abbey. It was richly decorated and made in Cuzco with clay of Chile. The sculpture, unknown until now, was destined to the Cuevas, in splendor in the eighteenth century. This splendour is the reflection of a period in which the institution sought to restore its faded grandeur, using art as one of the most effective means of expression.
