Abstract
The current work approaches the study of the franciscan paintings located in the basilic cathedral of Málaga. These paintings have been relocated from three different locations or origins; some directly commissioned by the cathedral counselor or the current bishop at the time, some carried from other estates and, finally, donations. Therefore, paintings are scattered over the place and make a group of scarce cohesion on historical and artistic issues. From an iconographic analysis we will approach the most spread main characters, stories and allegorical facts representations by the franciscan order, result of their constant propaganda movement. We will not dodge other artistic ratings from the most outstanding examples, case of the Alonso Cano's Virgen del Rosario canvas.
