Abstract
During the colonial era, female monastic spaces in Latin America shared many parallels and similitudes beyond the differences that are supposed to exist among religious orders. This phenomenon is tied to the problems they were created to solve, as well as the tension, opposition, and convergence of monarchical policy and the collective desire of the settlers and their descendants. This research seeks to analyze the real historical and social meaning of feminine conventual life and its parallel changements in different cities of the Viceroyalty, that had not necessarily contact with each other, throughout Latin America, according to its context and beyond its meaning in an orthodox "ideal" way.
