La presencia de maestros de arquitectura en la catedral de Guadalajara en Nueva Galicia durante los siglos XVII y XVIII

Abstract

La presencia de maestros de arquitectura en la catedral de Guadalajara en Nueva Galicia durante los siglos XVII y XVIII ha recibido menos atención en las investigaciones realizadas sobre el edificio, centradas principalmente en el desarrollo cronológico de las diferentes fases en la construcción. Después de la intervención de Martín Casillas, las noticias sobre los maestros que le sucedieron en el cargo aún son escasas para poder establecer una cronología coherente de las intervenciones. El presente estudio se centra en realizar una serie de consideraciones sobre la identidad y la relación de los maestros con la obra, además de plantear los períodos de intervención y destacar la vinculación que tuvo el edificio con artistas llegados de la ciudad de México y otras partes del virreinato de Nueva España, especialmente durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII.

The presence of architectural masters in the Guadalajara Cathedral in Nueva Galicia during the 17th and 18th centuries has received less attention in the researchs carried out on the building, mainly focused on the chronological development of the different phases in construction. After the intervention of Martín Casillas, the news about the teachers who succeeded him are still scarce to be able to establish a coherent chronology of the interventions. This study focuses on making a series of considerations about the identity and relationship of the teachers with the work, in addition to raising the periods of intervention and highlighting the link that the building had with artists from Mexico City and other parts of the viceroyalty of New Spain, especially during the second half of the 18th century.
