Um Guardião em Teias: Caminhos e Sentidos na Criação do Arquivo Público do Pará

Abstract

O Arquivo Público do Estado do Pará (APEP) tornou-se ao longo de sua história um dos principais guardiões da memória sociocultural inscrita na pena do poder público que gerenciou, desde o século XVII, o antigo Estado do Maranhão e Grão-Pará, no norte do Brasil. Fundado em 16 de abril de 1901 com a função de recolher e proteger documentos históricos relevantes à história da Amazônia e do Estado do Pará, o APEP nasceu no bafejar da modernidade, no avanço das ideias republicanas e nas relembranças da concepção de cidadania promulgada pela Revolução Francesa. Nesse enredo, o ensaio reconstitui sentidos, caminhos, funções e ações dessa instituição pública, sustentando-se nas teias do enlace entre História, Memória, Patrimônio e Arquivologia em contínuo refazer de saberes letrados e interesses políticos no mundo amazônico. The Public Archive of the State of Pará (APEP) has become throughout its history one of the main guardians of the socio-cultural memory registered by the government which since the seventeenth century was in charge of the old state of Maranhão and Grand Pará in Northern Brazil. Founded on April 16th, 1901 with the function of collecting and protecting relevant historical documents on the history of the Amazon and the state of Pará, the APEP was born in the aftermath of modernity, in the midst of thriving republican ideas and the recollection of the concept of citizenship promulgated by the French Revolution. In this context, this article reconstitutes the senses, paths, functions and actions of this public institution, held up in the webs in which History, Memory, Heritage and Archivology intricate, in a continuous remaking of knowledge and political interests in the Amazonian world.
