Silenciamento e violência no cinema e na literatura: as personagens femininas em Lavoura Arcaica

Abstract

O capítulo apresenta parte dos resultados de uma pesquisa de mestrado que consistiu no estudo e na análise comparativa entre o romance Lavoura Arcaica (1975), de Raduan Nassar, e o filme homônimo (2001), dirigido por Luiz Fernando Carvalho, a partir de problematizações sobre as representações da violência de gênero na literatura e no cinema. O objetivo do estudo foi investigar a questão do silenciamento de personagens femininas, identificando as estratégias narrativas adotadas em cada caso a partir da figura de um narrador ambíguo e melancólico, que poderia ser colocado sob suspeita a todo o momento do relato. As análises e leituras realizadas apontaram para uma construção ambivalente do ponto de vista narrativo, tanto no filme como no romance e fomentaram reflexões sobre os processos de violência ainda muito presentes na sociedade brasileira contemporânea.

The chapter presents part of the results of a master’s research that consisted of the study and comparative analysis between the novel Lavoura Arcaica (1975), by Raduan Nassar, and the homonymous film (2001), directed by Luiz Fernando Carvalho, based on problematization about the representations of gender violence in literature and cinema. The aim of the study was to investigate the issue of silencing female characters, identifying the narrative strategies adopted in each case based on the figure of an ambiguous and melancholy narrator, who could be placed under suspicion at any time of the report. The analyzes and readings carried out pointed to an ambivalent construction from the narrative point of view, both in the film and in the novel, and fostered reflections on the processes of violence that are still very present in contemporary Brazilian society.
