Abstract
Machismo is a belief that has been developing for decades and encompasses a set of attitudes and behaviors that preserve the male figure, considering women inferior. However, before reaching this extreme, other more subtle behaviors encourage it, such as stereotypes and gender roles. The aim of this project is to learn how the agents of socialization, specifically the family and the media, influence the construction of machismo in young people in Seville. The total sample consisted of eighty young individuals from the province of Seville and surrounding areas, twenty men, fifty-two women and one person who did not wish to indicate their sex, aged between 18 and 25 years, who were asked a closed questionnaire consisting of thirty-two questions. The results obtained show that the family plays a fundamental role in the formation of gender roles and stereotypes and that the social context reinforces the presence of sexist attitudes.
