Sevilla, punto de encuentro: Vieira Lusitano y los primeros pensionados de Felipe V en Roma.

Abstract

En 1732 se encontraron en Sevilla, en la corte itinerante de Felipe V, el artista portugués Vieira Lusitano y los jóvenes Felipe de Castro, escultor, y Francisco Preciado de la Vega, pintor. Muchos años después, de la Vega rememora ese momento en la famosa Lettera a Giambattista Ponfredi, que demuestra el respeto que todavía sentía por el portugués. Hasta la fecha, este encuentro no ha despertado el interés de los investigadores pero, sin duda, tuvo mucha influencia en el desarrollo profesional de Preciado de la Vega y Castro, ya que ambos partirían para Roma animados por Vieira. En este artículo se pretende analizar la huella que dejó ese encuentro entre los jóvenes, por qué tuvo lugar en Sevilla y de qué manera podemos rastrear el influjo del portugués, en concreto, en Felipe de Castro.

In 1732 the Portuguese artist Vieira Lusitano met the young Spanish artists Felipe de Castro and Preciado de la Vega in the provisional Court of Philipp V in Seville. Several years later, de la Vega still remembered the old master in the well-known Lettera a Giambattista Ponfredi that shows the respect that he still treasured. That encounter, to the date, has been neglected by the scholars, but there is no doubt of the seminal role it played in the development of their professional lives, since both parted to Rome thanks to Vieira¿s suggestion. This article deals with the impact of that encounter, why it happened in Seville and how is it possible to spot Vieira¿s influence, namely in Felipe de Castro.
