De la Vírgen de Monserrat al Señor Caído de Monserrate: misterio, fe y lugar.

Abstract

Las transferencias culturales que existieron entre España y América, tuvieron como uno de sus principales vehículos las devociones. Gracias a ellas, las manifestaciones materiales e inmateriales, las imágenes, las técnicas de elaboración, y los autores, entre otros, viajaron entre los mundos y se arraigaron o transformaron, hasta convertirse en piezas fundamentales para el fortalecimiento de las propias identidades. Una de las advocaciones que llegó desde España al nuevo mundo, fue la de Santa María de Monserrat, que en la capital de la Nueva Granada, Santafé hoy Bogotá, se arraigó y suscitó una serie de acontecimientos a partir de la llegada de su imagen: la construcción de una ermita y el esfuerzo por fundar una orden para su cuidado. Con los siglos se transformó dando paso a la génesis de una figura local, el Cristo caído a los azotes y clavado en la cruz, más conocido como el Señor de Monserrate. Hoy este fervor es el más importante de la ciudad, en su entorno se crearon y recrearon historias mágicas que sobrevivieron al olvido y lo convirtieron en uno de los fundamentos de su identidad y pieza fundamental de su patrimonio.Cultural transfers that existed between Spain and America had the devotions as one of its main vehicles. By these devotions, their material and inmaterial manifestations, images, manufacturing techniques, and the authors, among others travelled between the worlds to either root or transform until these transfers became the builiding blocks that reinforced their own identities. One of the dedications that arrived from Spain to the New World was to the Holy Mary of Monserrat. This image rooted in the capital of the Nueva Granada, Santafé today Bogotá, and prompted a series of events upon its arrival: the construction of a shrine and the effort to found an order devoted only to its care, among others. The image of the Holy Mary of Monserrat transformed over the centuries generating the genesis of a new local image, a Christ nailed to the cross and fallen to theflogging, known as the Lord of Monserrate. To this day, this is the most important fervor of the city. Around this new image magical stories were created and recreated that have survived oblivion and made it one of the foundations of the city¿s identity and a fundamental part of its heritage.
