Abstract
Our aim was to analyze, through a comparative study, the curricular adaptations of the conciliar seminaries in the Spanish and Portuguese Americas up to the 18th century. The compilation and categorization of the curriculum helps us to understand the different formation profiles of the secular clergy in the New World, as well as the aspects and circumstances that shaped them. The research methodology used to prepare this article was based on documentary research through manuscript sources, statutes, curricula, bishops' reports, and other administrative documents of the colonial bureaucracy among the ecclesiastical authorities, structures, and subjects of the Catholic kings. The sources suggest that the adaptations of the curricula were strictly conditioned by three main causes: financing, pastoral circumstances, and the different subjects of formation.
