Abstract

This paper studies both the workship and the festive sociability of the Sevillian brotherhoods of the sixteenth century based on the documentation preserved in their former hospitals before the reduction of 1587. Testimonies of the president members, accounts books and inventories of goods allow us to reconstruct the life that took place in their hospital-houses, a meeting place and a sacred space where the patron saints were worshipped. The masses and anniversary remembrances in the memory of their founders were combined with the general feasts of the patronal saints.
