Abstract
Durante los años en que se desarrolló la lucha política, los revolucionarios y militantes de la
izquierda política dejaron un legado artístico, por el cual se expresó la ideología y la utopía por la que
se luchó. Tal es el caso de la militancia en el interior de la Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala,
donde se llevó a cabo un proceso de muralización desde los primeros años de la década de los setenta,
por un grupo de intelectuales y artistas. Este proceso fue captado por el fotógrafo Mauro Calanchina,
quién aportó con su trabajo a la conservación de la memoria histórica. El recorrido por el patrimonio
artístico guatemalteco implica el estudio de las imágenes que fueron desarrolladas durante este periodo.
En este trabajo se pretende puntualizar algunos momentos significativos, para entender el desarrollo de
estas manifestaciones culturales, los murales y la fotografía en la USAC, que aportan a la comprensión
y conocimiento de la lucha revolucionaria del país centroamericano.
During the years of political struggle, revolutionaries and left activists developed an artistic legacy, that remarks the ideology and utopia that was fighting for. That is the case of militancy emerged at San Carlos University of Guatemala, where a muralization process were created at since early seventies ruled by a group of intellectuals and artists. This process was captured by Mauro Calanchina, a photographer that made an important contribution with his work, helping to preserve historical memory. The jouney about the guatemalan artistic heritage involves the study of the images developed during this period. This paper pretends to clarify some significant moments, to understand the development of those cultural manifestations, murals and photography at USAC, as part of the revolutionary struggle of the Central American country.
