La familia Medina Picazo y los testimonios de su patrocinio devocional

Abstract

Las actividades sociales de la familia Medina Picazo se han recuperado en la historiografía; sin embargo, los miembros son tratados aisladamente y no se ha analizado, aún, la labor de patrocinio colectivo que ejerció esta familia a lo largo de seis generaciones durante los siglos XVI al XVIII. Así, este trabajo pretende reunir testimonios, sermones, testamentos, méritos e inventarios, que están directamente relacionados con el patrocinio familiar en las fundaciones del hospital de San Lázaro y el hospital de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, posteriormente conocido como el hospital de San Juan de Dios, la iglesia de San Francisco Xavier de Tepotzotlán, el santuario de la Virgen de Guadalupe y la capilla de la Inmaculada Concepción en el convento concepcionista de Regina Coeli de la Ciudad de México.

The social activities of the Medina Picazo family have been recounted in historiography; however, the family members have been treated in isolation and the collective patronage work that the family exercised over six generations -from the sixteenth to eighteenth century- has not yet been analyzed. This paper aims to gather the testimonies, sermons, testaments, merits and inventories, which are directly related to patronage of the family in the establishment of the hospital of San Lazaro and the hospital of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, later known as the hospital of San Juan de Dios; the church of San Francisco Xavier of Tepotzotlán; the sanctuary of the Virgen de Guadalupe and the chapel of the Inmaculada Concepción in the Conceptionist convent of Regina Coeli of Mexico City.
