Abstract
La Sevilla quinientista se convirtió en un imán para los artistas, debido
las posibilidades que ofrecía a consecuencia de su bonanza económica.
Desde Portugal llegaron un buen número de muchachos aspirantes a
pintor, en busca de una formación que les permitiera ejercer el oficio. El
que destacó entre todos ellos fue Vasco Pereira, lisboeta, quien se formó
junto al genial Luis de Vargas. Gracias a los hallazgos en el Archivo de
Protocolos Notariales, se presentan aquí nuevos datos sobre su vida y
obra, con la intención de esclarecer la personalidad artística de uno de
los pintores más destacados de la ciudad en el último tercio del siglo XVI.
In the 16th century, Sevilla became a magnet for artists, due to the possibilities it offered as a result of its economic bonanza. From Portugal came a good number of boys aspiring to a painter, looking for a training that would allow them to exercise the trade. The one who stood out among them was Vasco Pereira, Lisbon, who was formed along with the brilliant Luis de Vargas. Thanks to the findings in the archive of notarial protocols, new data are presented here about his life and work, with the intention of clarifying the artistic personality of one of the most prominent painters of the city in the last third of the 16th century.
