Liberalismo y regímenes políticos: El aporte de Montesquieu

Abstract

El presente artículo busca explicar las dificultades de la ciencia de los regímenes que Montesquieu expone en El espíritu de las leyes. Para ello, se presenta en primer término el escenario intelectual que enfrenta Montesquieu, que está marcado por el abandono moderno a la cuestión de los regímenes y la elaboración del concepto de soberanía. Se explica luego brevemente la taxonomía de regímenes propuesta por Montesquieu. Por último, se intenta explicar cómo conciliar la tripartición política del filósofo francés con los nuevos criterios que él mismo introduce progresivamente en su obra (moderación y libertad política), y que están presentes en el célebre capítulo sobre la constitución de Inglaterra.The aim of this article is to explain the dificulties of Monstesquieu's science of political regimes, exposed in his book The Spirit of the Laws. In order to do so, the intellectual scene faced by Montesquieu is presented in the first place, emphazising the modern abandonment of the issue concerning [political?] regimes and the making of the concept of sovereignty. Then, Montesquieu's proposal of a taxonomy of political? regimes is explained. Finally, the author attempts to explain how to conciliate the French philosopher's political "triad" with the new criteria progressively introduced by him in his work (namely, restraint and political freedom) and present in the well known chapter regarding the Constitution of England.
