Abstract

This chapter proposes an interpretation of the Spanish Empire during the Modern Age based, above all, on symbolic production. It describes the uniqueness achieved by such a legitimizing operation, which was carried out through important works in every artis- tic form, which could be characterized as belonging to a ¿Golden Age¿. Mytho-poetic production rose at that time as the shared language of a Hispanic Community, especia- lly transatlantic, only dissolved in the early 19th century.
