Sobre Sebastián de Pesquera y Claudio de León, vidrieros de la Catedral de Sevilla

Abstract

En este artículo se dan a conocer nuevas noticias documentales y obras de los maestros vidrieros Sebastián de Pesquera y Claudio de León, activos en Sevilla en el último tercio del siglo XVI y primero del siguiente. En un periodo en el que la actividad de los artistas del vidrio en Sevilla se creía hasta ahora reducida a la labor restauradora de ventanales más antiguos, la obra de ambos representa una limitada pero cierta continuidad en la creación de nuevas vidrieras historiadas respecto al floreciente periodo anterior.

This paper examines new documents and works by the stained glass masters Sebastián de Pesquera and Claudio de León, who worked in Seville in the last third of the XVIth Century and the first third of the following Century. In a period in which the activity of the stained glass artists working in Seville was previously thought to be reduced to the restoration of older windows, the work of both artists represents a limited but certain continuity, in regard to the previous flourishing period, in the creation of new historiated stained glass windows.
