Abstract
El 8 de marzo de 1849 se inauguraba en Santiago la primera Academia de Pintura chilena con el famoso Discurso pronunciado por el pintor italiano Alessandro Ciccarelli ante un público entusiasta. En las próximas líneas queremos poner en evidencia su aportación teórica al nacimiento de una verdadera conciencia educacional artística en la sociedad chilena del siglo XIX, más allá de sus dotes como pintor y de la injusta comparación con el francés Monvoisin de la cual el napolitano sale siempre perdiendo. Fue lo aprendido en aquella Roma investigada por J. J. Winckelmann, A. R. Mengs y por V. Camuccini, lo que Ciccarelli quiso transferir a las artes chilenas: no se trataba de un estilo pictórico, sino de un método de aprendizaje de las Artes basado en el ejercicio constante del dibujo.
On August 8th, 1849 in front of an enthusiastic audience, the first Chilean Painting Academy opened up its doors with the famous Speech articulated by the Italian painter Alessandro Ciccarelli. In this text we will focus on his theoretical contribution to the birth of a true consciousness surrounding artistic education in Chilean society of the 19th century. Our analysis extends beyond his qualities as a painter and the unfair comparison made between Ciccarelli and the French Monvoisin, in which the Neapolitan is always defeated. What Ciccarelli wished to transmit to Chilean arts was what he had learned in the city of Rome (as researched by J. J. Winckelmann, A. R. Mengs, and V. Camuccini); it was not about a pictorial style, but a learning method for the Arts based on constant drawing exercises.
