Abstract
Day centers for elderly people are an essential resource in the monitoring of the ageing process, especially in contexts characterized by the diversity of levels of autonomy and cognitive impairment. In these spaces, Social Education plays a key role in promoting integral well-being, understood from a cognitive, relational and social perspective. This paper addresses the participation and significant involvement of older people in the daily dynamics of a day center, paying attention to situations of passivity, low motivation and emotional disconnection that can affect their well-being. Through the analysis of reality, the coexistence of diverse profiles is identified, which shows the need for flexible interventions, adjusted to individual rhythms and needs. From this perspective, a socio-educational intervention is proposed aimed at promoting meaningful participation, emotional expression, social interaction and small decision-making, placing the elderly person as an active subject of their own life process. The proposal is based on the Person-Centered Care approach and prioritizes the prevention of emotional disconnection, the promotion of personal autonomy and active ageing. The conclusions highlight the importance of the social educator in day centers as a key professional in the accompaniment, dynamization and creation of meaningful educational contexts. In this way, Social Education is presented as a key discipline to promote the integral well-being, participation and quality of life of the elderly in these resources.
