Abstract
Este estudio está dedicado a analizar el origen de la iconografía de santa Mariana de Jesús de Paredes Flores (1618-1645), también conocida como la Azucena de Quito y cómo esta fue configurada sobre los planteamientos e ideales espirituales difundidos por la Compañía de Jesús. Para ello se han empleado como fuentes primarias los retratos y grabados más tempranos de su iconografía; estos se han confrontado con las principales fuentes de información sobre la joven quiteña: el sermón del padre Alonso de Rojas, el proceso informativo previo a su causa de beatifi- cación y la biografía escrita por el padre Jacinto Morán de Butrón.

The aim of this article is to analyse the origin of the iconography of Santa Mariana de Jesús de Paredes Flores (1618-1645), also known as ¿The Lily of Quito¿, which was configured according to the spirituality of the Society of Jesus. For this study, the earliest portraits and engravings of her iconography have been used as primary sources; these have been confronted with the main literary sources of information about this woman: the sermon of Father Alonso de Rojas, the information process prior to her cause of beatification, and the biography written by Father Jacinto Morán de Butrón.
