Ilusionismo y otros trampantojos en la pintura mural virreinal

Abstract

En este texto estudiaremos algunos de los ejemplos de trampantojos más sobresalientes existentes en la pintura mural de la América virreinal, en los que veremos tanto la imitación de motivos arquitectónicos (donde se aprecia la influencia de tratados arquitectónicos y de otras publicaciones, no siempre relacionadas directamente con el ámbito artístico), así como ejemplos en donde se recrean objetos reales (cortinajes, retablos, esculturas¿). Si bien en muchas de las pinturas analizadas se aprecia una limitada calidad artística, no por ello dejan de ser interesantes muestras populares y de ingenio para suplir la pobreza material, buscando equipararse a otros centros artísticos de primer orden.

In this text we will study some of the examples of trampantojos in the most outstanding mural painting of viceroyal America, studying both the imitation of architectural motifs (where we can see the influence of architectural treaties as well as other publications not always directly related to the artistic field), such as the recreation of real objects (curtains, altarpieces, sculptures...). While the examples analyzed show a limited quality, they are interesting not because they are a popular example of the desire to fill material poverty, seeking to equate itself to other art centers of the first order.
