A talha deslocada: Circulação, remontagem e adaptação de altares barrocos em Portugal e no Brasil.

Abstract

Este texto pretende colocar em confronto as experiências e estudos sobre o tema da trasladação de altares de talha em Portugal e no Brasil, elegendo-se as cidades de Lisboa e de São Paulo como objeto de análise. Enquanto que em Lisboa, estes movimentos e adaptações tiveram como pretexto a extinção das Ordens Religiosas em Portugal, em 1834, em São Paulo, estas ações justificam-se pelo desgaste das Ordens e, depois, pela necessidade de expansão e modernização da cidade. A aproximação entre estas duas situações justifica-se pelo paralelo dos mecanismos de produção da arte da talha, o intercâmbio de experiências artísticas e o valor simbólico e devocional que estas peças tinham para as duas culturas. O facto de existirem escassos estudos dedicados ao tema e a semelhança entre ambos os processos de alienação deste patrimonio são também razões que determinam o paralelismo e a reunião de conhecimentos.The present text aims to confront experiences and studies on the theme of displacement of woodcarved altars in Portugal (Lisbon) and Brazil (São Paulo). While in Lisbon these displacements and adaptations were the result of the extinction of the religious orders in Portugal in 1834, in São Paulo these actions were based on the gradual decay of the orders and, later, on the need for the expansion and modernization of the city. The approach between the two realities is justified by the parallelism of the mechanisms of production of woodcarving, the exchange of artistic experiences, and the devotional and symbolic value that these pieces had for both cultures. The scarce number of studies dedicated to the topic and the similarity of these processes of alienation of this patrimony are other reasons for this gathering of knowledge.
