Abstract
This intervention project focuses on a problem of growing social importance, unwanted loneliness in older people. Through a literature review of previous research, the causes and physical and psychological consequences of loneliness will be identified. To address this problem, it is proposed to implement animal-assisted interventions from Social Work as a tool to mitigate loneliness through animal companionship in old people of District Macarena (Sevilla), taking advantage of the human-animal bond that has proven to have significant benefits for the emotional and physical health of people. In addition, animal adoptions will be promoted as a complementary method to animal-assisted interventions, emphasizing how animal companionship can improve quality of life and reduce loneliness in the elderly.
