Expresiones del Barroco en la catedral de Toledo: vestigios y presencia de un arte censurado

Abstract

En este artículo se hace mención a las obras significativas que el arte barroco emplazó en la Santa Iglesia Catedral de Toledo durante los siglos de su plena vigencia y bajo la dirección de notables artistas de procedencia madrileña. El templo gótico acogió obras constructivas, pictóricas y decorativas, de género retablístico y de orfebrería adscritas a los modelos barrocos en evolución a lo largo del siglo XVII y principios del XVIII, pero que en algunos casos fueron sustituidas o modificadas en las reformas realizadas bajo el prisma academicista de la Ilustración, reduciendo así su presencia como en ningún otro templo catedralicio y pasando a ser el Transparente de Narciso Tomé la obra cumbre a la vez que testimonial de una época artística censurada.

In this article mention is made of the significant works that Baroque art placed in the Holy Church Cathedral of Toledo during the centuries of its full validity and under the direction of accredited artists of Madrilenian origin. The Gothic temple hosted constructive, pictorial and decorative works, the altarpiece and goldsmith genre belonging to the Baroque models in evolution throughout the 17th and early 18th centuries, but some of which were replaced or modified in the reforms carried out under the academic prism of the late of the Enlightenment period, reducing its presence like in no other cathedral and becoming Narciso Tomé¿s Transparente, the masterpiece but testimonial of a censored artistic time.
