Abstract

Although they may seem synonymous, the research reveals different origins, trajectories, and sociopolitical implications for each term. We argue that both, nevertheless, function as frames by tensioning and promoting a change in rationalities to understand the singularities of the lifestyles of indigenous and traditional coastal and marine peoples in the face of threats from ocean grabbing. The research integrates bibliographic review and ethnographic experiences, enriching the understanding of these concepts in their specific contexts.
