Abstract
A vast iconographic complexity representing water in Pre-hispanic cultures in the Central American and part of Mexico area is broadly analyzed, concentrating on three gold pieces from the Diquís archaeological subregion in the current Costa Rican territory. A visual comparison allows to establish an interrelation between the gold pieces and other similar representations in the Central American region through Semiotics, Mythology and Structural Analysis of objects. The element of water in Central America encompasses a rich and varied symbolic manifestation. This represents a small but significant interpretation of tumbaga animal representations in the three pieces from the Diquis subregion through cosmic representations and the hierophany of the Pre-Hispanic universe.
