%X El siguiente artículo analiza a grandes rasgos la vasta complejidadiconográfica representante del agua en las culturas prehispánicas dela zona centroamericana y parte de México, con énfasis en tres piezasde oro de la subregión arqueológica Diquís del actual territoriocostarricense. La comparatística visual permite interrelacionar laspiezas de oro con otras representaciones afines en la región centroamericanapor medio de la semiótica, mitología y análisis estructuralde los objetos. El elemento del agua en Centroamérica comprendeuna rica y variada manifestación simbólica. Esta será una pequeñapincelada a través de sus representaciones cósmicas, las hierofaníasdel universo prehispánico en torno a la animalística de la tumbagaen las tres piezas de la región del Diquís que se interpretan acá.
%X A vast iconographic complexity representing water in Pre-hispanic culturesin the Central American and part of Mexico area is broadly analyzed,concentrating on three gold pieces from the Diquís archaeologicalsubregion in the current Costa Rican territory. A visual comparisonallows to establish an interrelation between the gold pieces and other similarrepresentations in the Central American region through Semiotics,Mythology and Structural Analysis of objects. The element of water inCentral America encompasses a rich and varied symbolic manifestation.This represents a small but significant interpretation of tumbaga animalrepresentations in the three pieces from the Diquis subregion throughcosmic representations and the hierophany of the Pre-Hispanic universe.
