Abstract

After the Catholic Reformation and in the cultural and artistic context of the Baroque, the sacri monti assumed a growing theatricality, as a stimulus to sensoriality and emotion. The case study of sacri monti is pursued from the matrix analysis unit of the mount of Varallo, from which the successive units of Braga and Congonhas are examined. Accompanying the bibliographic research, in the fields of art history and the anthropology of the religious phenomenon, with the direct observation of the sites, the research aims to identify the identity factors of the sacri monti, their architectural and landscape particularities of the place and the form as reflected in the tradition of religious narrative and popular devotion.
