El Rey Planeta, un ¿nuevo Hércules¿. Renovación de la imagen de la monarquía hispana a partir del modelo de virtud

Abstract

Hércules es en uno de los héroes mitológicos con mayor difusión de todos los tiempos. Sus hazañas, recogidas por los autores clásicos, no solo contribuyeron al ámbito literario, sino también al artístico. El arte, especialmente la pintura, recreó algunos de sus pasajes más significativos en múltiples ocasiones desde la Antigu¿edad, como se demuestra por la abundante bibliografía sobre el tema. No obstante, el estrecho vínculo que se produce entre el héroe y la monarquía hispana, en este caso mediante la figura de Felipe IV, resulta todavía digna de análisis. Por este motivo, el siguiente estudio pretende mostrar la manera en la que ambos personajes se relacionan, así como la estrategia tomada por el monarca para potenciar su imagen haciendo uso de la conocida Virtud hercúlea.Hercules is one of the most famous mythological heroes of all time. His deeds, compiled by classical authors, not only contributed to the literary field but also to art. Art, especially painting, recreated some of its most significant passages on multiple occasions since Antiquity, as illustrated by the extensive literature on the subject. However, the close link between the hero and the Hispanic monarchy, in this case through the figure of Philip IV, is still worthy of analysis. For this reason, the following study aims to show how both characters are related and the monarch used the strategy to enhance his image
