Alguns casos de ilusionismo na pintura mural portuguesa do século XVI

Abstract

A pintura a fresco, em Portugal, aparece tardiamente, já só em finais do século XV, não tendo acompanhado a construção dos templos românicos e, portanto, não existem exemplares dessa época. O seu desenvolvimento não acompanha o que, de um modo geral, se produz na Europa, sendo o domínio da perspectiva muito fraco e só a partir dos anos 30 do século XVI se encontram pinturas, marcadamente renascentistas, onde a noção da tridimensionalidade é bem conseguida. Assim, abordar o ilusionismo na pintura mural portuguesa deste século passa pela análise das pinturas onde se representam diversos planos de composição, elementos arquitectónicos e o fingimento de outros materiais e equipamentos como tecidos e retábulos.

Fresco painting appears belatedly in Portugal, only at the end of the 15th century, having not accompanied the construction of the Romanesque temples and, therefore, there are no examples of that period. Its development does not follow what is generally produced in Europe, the domain of perspective is very weak and only since 1530s it is possible to find paintings, markedly Renaissance, where the notion of three-dimensionality is well achieved. Thus, an approach to illusionism of this century includes the analysis of the paintings which represent various composition plans, architectural elements and the imitation of other materials such as textiles and altarpieces.
