Abstract
The Via Sacra of the Sacromonte Abbey of Granada was formed by a group of brothers from the "Thirteen Brothers" brotherhood, a branch of The Venerable Third Order of Saint Francis, based in the Casa Grande of the Convent of Saint Francis. It is, in essence, a form of Calvary consisting of fourteen sandstone crosses that constituted an ascetic devotional impetus, devised as an imaginary initiatory devotional corridor. In this study we will perform a morphological and artistic re-reading of the Via Sacra, introducing unpublished documentary data that reveals relationships between the Franciscan community and the Sacromonte Chapter, as well as the people who frequented and financed it.
