LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE LA RELIGIÓN DEL ¿OTRO¿ EN LA GEOGRAFÍA DE ESTRABÓN: EL CASO ARMENIO

Abstract

En su Geografía, Estrabón construye cada descripción con una selección de los datos que ha obtenido a través de las fuentes que ha consultado y de su propia experiencia personal. En consecuencia, los intentos de establecer un patrón descriptivo único con el que analizar la obra en su conjunto resultan inadecuados, ya que los distintos elementos usados en las des- cripciones, incluidos los religiosos, no son los mismos ni son tratados por el autor de la misma manera. En el caso de Armenia, los tópicos que aplica Estrabón a esta comunidad sirven para hacerla inteligible a sus lectores y para cumplir con los objetivos principales de la obra: dar una imagen de los distintos pueblos del mundo habitado, ser una obra de utilidad para gobernantes y militares e, indirectamente, mostrar la superioridad de la civilización griega.--------------------------------------------------------------------------In his Geography, Strabo builds each description with a selection of data obtained through the sources he has consulted and his own personal experience. Since the different elements used in descriptions, religious elements included, are neither the same nor traited in the same way by the autor. In Armenia¿s case, Strabo builds religious topics to apply at this community in order to make him comprenhensible to his readers and achieve the main objectives of the work: offer a picture of the people of the inhabited world, be a useful guide for governors and military soldiers and, implicitly, show the superiority of greek civilization.
