Sacrários esféricos entre Lisboa e Minas Gerais: uma abordagem iconográfica e estilística

Abstract

As normativas do Concílio de Trento (1545-1563) e as regras específicas delas derivadas, nomeadamente pelas constituições sinodais, replicaram-se por todo o mundo católico. A compreensão de como estas ações condicionaram a produção artística barroca luso-brasileira de uma das peças fundamentais da liturgia: os sacrários, concretamente aqueles que adotaram a forma esférica em talha dourada, será um dos objetivos deste estudo. A sua fortuna icono- gráfica e estética alicerça-se nas grandes produções teológicas e imagéticas produzidas no seio da Companhia de Jesus, nomeadamente na sua igreja romana do Gesù. Esta estética, também replicada em Lisboa, na banqueta de prata que o ourives Frederico Ludovici desenhou e executou para os jesuítas do colégio de Santo Antão, que incluía um sacrário esférico, alcançou vasta fortuna e derivou de Lisboa para o resto do país, bem como para o Brasil.

The norms of the Council of Trent (1545-1563) and the specific rules derived from them, namely by the synodal constitutions, were replicated throughout the Catholic world. The understanding of how these actions conditioned the Portuguese-Brazilian Baroque artistic production of one of the fundamen- tal pieces of the liturgy: the tabernacles, specifically those that adopted the spherical shape in gilded wood, will be one of the objectives of this study. Its iconographic and aesthetic fortune is based on the theological and imagery produced in the heart of the Society of Jesus, namely in its Roman church in Gesù. This aesthetics, also replicated in Lisbon, on the silver banquette that the silversmith Frederico Ludovici designed and executed for the Jesuits of the Santo Antão college, which included a spherical tabernacle, reached a vast fortune, and spread from Lisbon to the rest of the country and to Brazil.
