dc.description	From the attack carried out by English corsairs on the city of Cartagena de Indias in February 1586, we intend to contribute new elements to the under- standing of the use given to Catholic religious images during the 16th century. To this end, we will analyze three aspects related to the images that were attacked during the site: the identification of some works that the invaders could find; the meaning of the attack on the images, especially in what was written by the chronicler Juan de Castellanos; and the analysis of the English sources, where these iconoclastic acts are silenced. Through these three axes, the document proposes that the destructions against Catholic images at the hands of the English in Cartagena in 1586 can be considered as an American chapter of a European conflict that became global during the 16th century.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	A partir del ataque realizado por corsarios ingleses a la ciudad de Cartagena de Indias en febrero de 1586, pretendemos aportar nuevos elementos para comprender el uso dado a las imágenes religiosas católicas durante el siglo XVI. Para ello, analizaremos tres aspectos relacionados con las imágenes que fueron agredidas durante el sitio: la identificación de algunas obras que pudieron encontrar los invasores; el significado del ataque a las imágenes, especialmente en lo escrito por el cronista Juan de Castellanos; y el análisis de las fuentes inglesas donde estos actos iconoclastas quedan silenciados. A través de estos tres ejes el escrito propone que las destrucciones contra imágenes católicas a manos de los ingleses en Cartagena en 1586 pueden ser consideradas como un capítulo americano de un conflicto europeo que se globalizó durante el siglo XVI.	es_ES
