La representación del tiempo en la Alegoría de la Muerte de la Profesa en México

Abstract

La representación de las postrimerías en México llama la atención de los investigadores por su singularidad. Destaca la Alegoría de la Muerte, una pintura al óleo de la pinacoteca de la Profesa en la Ciudad de México. En ella aparecen representados escenarios relacionados al tiempo, cada uno forma parte del discurso sobre la fugacidad. En el momento histórico en que fue pintado, todos los recordatorios de la mortandad, cómo los cráneos, funerales, cadáveres y cementerios fueron ocultados y rechazados por los ilustrados mexicanos, por lo que las pinturas como la Alegoría de la Muerte fueron un método muy eficaz de la Iglesia para llegar a las élites. El presente texto aborda una lectura a partir de la iconografía para acercarse a una interpretación histórica centrado en la pintura de la Alegoría de la Muerte de la Profesa.

The representation of the loss of life in Mexico draws the attention of researchers because of its uniqueness. Highlights the Allegory of Death, an oil painting found in the pinacoteca de la Profesa in Mexico City. This artwork has scenarios related to time. Each one is part of the discourse on the transience. In the historical moment in which it was painted, all the reminders of death, like the skulls, funerals, corpses, and cemeteries were removed and rejected by a large part of the enlightened mexicans, so that paintings such as the Allegory of Death were a very effective method for the Church to reach the elites. The present text it¿s an interpretation from iconography to approach a historical reading centered on the painting of the Allegory of the Death of the Profesa.
