Abstract

In the gardens at El Buen Retiro, commissioned by Conde Duque de Olivares for Felipe IV, seven hermit constructions were to be found. These buildings served the purpose of religious worship in solitude. Of interest about these constructions is their mixed nature as religious and courtly works of art.
