Educación superior y geopolítica del conocimiento. El papel social de la universidad

Abstract

Estas líneas contienen algunas notas sobre la dimensión histórica de la universidad y lo que podría llamarse, en términos generales, su papel social. El tema, por supuesto, no es nuevo. Es tan viejo como la propia universidad. Pero algunos aspectos interesantes pueden ser considerados si, aun sabiendo que las respuestas también son viejas, pueden ser todavía útiles al plantearse nuevas preguntas. La Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Sede Ecuador, fue creada a fines del siglo XX como un centro sui generis que debía asumir el conocimiento `desde abajo¿. En esta institución hemos trabajado desde los años noventa en programas internacionales cuyo eje es la visión desde el sur del mundo. Y lo hemos hecho en estrecha relación con los movimientos sociales, que han jugado un papel central en nuestra actividad académica. Con este bagaje de práctica colectiva y con la experiencia de haber participado en debates sobre la historia y la misión de nuestra universidad latinoamericana, presente en este texto algunas ideas sobre el papel de los centros de educación superior en la historia del mundo y de América Latina

These paragraphs contain some notes on the historical dimension of the university and what could be called in general terms, its social role. The subject, of course, is not new. It is as old as the university itself. But some interesting facets could be discovered if, knowing that the answers could be old, they might look better if we ask new questions. The Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Sede Ecuador, was created at the end of the 20th century as a sui generis center that must assume knowledge `from below¿. Here we have worked since the nineties in international programs whose axis is the view from the south of the world. And we have done it in close relation with social movements, which have a central place in our academic activity. With this background of collective practice and with some experience of having participated in several debates on the history and mission of our Latin American university, I present some ideas about the role of higher centers in world history and in Latin America
